COE and CSM graduate students bag awards at ICMRI 2024

Graduate students from the College of Engineering and College of Science and Mathematics bagged various awards at the first International Conference on Multidisciplinary Research and Innovations (ICMRI) held at Western Mindanao State University (WÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳), Zamboanga City on April 17-19, 2024. 

MS Materials Science Engineering student, Fel Jane A. Echavez was awarded the Best Paper Award under the Cluster 5: Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Health Sciences. Her research paper is titled, "Various Ceramic Products successfully produced from Nickel Laterite Mine Waste in Southern Philippines” co-authored by Rae Homer L. Aquiatan, Dr. Vannie Joy T. Resabal, and Dr. Ivyleen B. Arugay.  Echavez’ participation was funded by ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT. 

Mr. Larry C. Herbito Jr., a graduate student of MS Environmental Science, also presented his paper, "Unveiling the Prevalence of Invasive Alien Plant Species in Initao Libertad Protected Landscape and Seascape." Co-authored by Jaime Q. Guihawan, Christine Marie V. Casal, Daisy Lou L. Polestico, and Armi G. Torres, the study also won the best paper award for Cluster 2: Biology and Environmental Studies. His participation was funded by the Department of Science and Technology - Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program.

WÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ spearheaded this conference in collaboration with the Universidad Politechnica Salesiana, Ecuador. Speakers for the plenary sessions were from Ecuador, Mexico, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines.  

The ICMRI serves as a platform where researchers can discuss and display their multidisciplinary research papers with innovative approaches, methodologies, and findings. Virtual and onsite sessions were done during the conference.
