CCS hosts research-centered seminars in Tangub City

Nov 29 2024

The College of Computer Studies’ (CCS) approved extension program, the Research Capacity Building for IT Educators and Students (ReCITEs), marked another significant milestone with two successful seminars held at Tangub City’s leading institutions, the Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST) and the Tangub City Global College (TCGC), on October 25 and November 15, 2024, respectively.

Spearheaded by Assoc. Prof. Mia Amor C. Tinam-isan, the program aims to enhance students' research capabilities by introducing topics that will inspire and equip them to address pressing issues not only within their local communities but also on a global scale. These topics were designed to guide them in developing relevant and impactful ideas for their thesis or proposals.

Engaging discussions in the seminars were led by faculty members from the CCS— Responsible Use of Generative AI in Academic Writing by Paul B. Bokingkito Jr.; Spotting Research Opportunities in Information Systems by Asst. Prof. Jerina Jean M. Ecleo; Introduction to Embedded Systems and IoT by Asst. Prof. Apple Rose B. Alce; Conducting IT Research with an Impact by January F. Naga Research; and Pitching: Importance of Problem Framing by Asst. Prof. Stefany Mae V. Caparida.

The seminars also served as a platform for forging stronger collaborative ties between the two colleges.

At NMSCST, under the leadership of Dean Joseph Meynard G. Ogdol, discussions are underway to formalize the partnership between the institutions. The drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is in progress, with plans for more joint activities in the near future.

Meanwhile, at TCGC, headed by Dean Carin Z. Cabatingan, an existing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) includes a framework for collaboration. Building on this foundation, another research collaboration activity is set to take place next year, promising to further strengthen ties and foster shared growth.

“This is not just about capacity-building; it’s about building bridges for sustained partnerships,” said Ms. Tinam-isan. “We’re excited to see how these collaborations impact the IT academic community.”

The ReCITEs seminars have not only enriched participants' knowledge but also established a network of institutions committed to driving research and innovation in IT education.
