In the pursuit of addressing issues and revisiting current concepts surrounding domestic and international politics, the Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA) commenced its 2024 International Conference on May 2, 2024, at the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT Gymnasium. Organized by the Political Science Department of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT, together with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Philippines Office, and Philippine Social Science Council, this conference will be until May 4, 2024.

The conference, which has the theme, “Reimagining Margins, Reclaiming Borders” is participated by scholars and researchers not only from the Philippines but from other countries as well. PPSA President, Dr. Jan Robert R. Go, mentioned in his opening remarks that there are more than 40 concurrent sessions to be done out of the abstract submissions. According to him, the topics of these papers tackle family and religion, gender and indigenous people, state institutions, and many more.

During his speech in the Opening Ceremonies, Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan emphasized the theme and the need to reevaluate margins and borders.

“Reimagining margins empowers marginalized groups, while reclaiming borders adapts to changing geopolitical challenges. This is vital for addressing societal inequalities and redefining our understanding of boundaries in an ever-evolving world,” he said.

The highlight of the morning session was the talk delivered by the Keynote Speaker, Professor Miriam Coronel Ferrer who was the 2023 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee. Her presentation is entitled, “Of Borders & Margins.” Afterward, concurrent sessions began at the different parts of the University.

The second plenary session also took place in the afternoon with the subject matter of “RTD on Experiences in Teaching Political Science” featuring the following speakers– Dr. Aries Arugay, University of the Philippines Diliman; Dr. Elaine Baulete, ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT; Dr Reymund Flores, West Visayas State University; and Asst Prof Ciela Marie Pacopia, Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology.
