To impart knowledge on the importance of taking part in voting during elections, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Iligan, Education and Information (EID) of COMELEC Manila, in partnership with ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT, facilitated a Voter Education Lecture at the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT Mini-theatre and a Voter Registration at the IDS MultiPurpose Hall on April 22, 2024 as part of the “2024 Voter Education and Registration Fair, Karapatang Bumoto Simulan sa Pagpaparehistro.”
Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs, Dr. Nancy Echavez, gave the opening remarks and reiterated the importance of having this conversation– that one must be able to remember their responsibility in shaping the country’s future through the simple yet powerful act of casting votes.
Attended by students, the Voter Education Lecture centered on the discussion of Voter’s Rights and Responsibilities delivered by the Information Officer of EID COMELEC, Carmelita C. Ayson. Students were participative during the talk as Ms. Ayson did an interactive presentation by asking the basic questions about being a voter to which the students were able to answer excellently.
The talk empowered the students to exercise their democratic rights and to actively engage in the electoral process to contribute significantly to the growth of the country.
Afterward, with the convenience provided by the COMELEC and ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT, the participants and other ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT students who were not yet registered voters enlisted during the Voter Registration Fair.
