ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT's College of Computer Studies (CCS) recently hosted the Quantum Computing Lecture Series, in collaboration with One Quantum Philippines, offering a deep dive into cutting-edge technology followed by a General Assembly of the College’s budding student developers’ guild named Tesseract on March 16, 2024. University officials attending the activity were Dr. Gaudencio Petalcorin Jr., Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Rabby Q. Lavilles, CCS Dean.

The first part of the event, which was the lecture series, featured a lineup of experts who shed light on various aspects of quantum computing. Dr. Orven E. Llantos opened the series, followed by a presentation on the Miracles of Theoretical Computer Science by Dr. Henry Adorna from the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Following Dr. Adorna's lecture was Bobby Corpus, President of OneQuantum Philippines, who provided participants with a talk on Introduction to Quantum Computing, understanding the complex concepts and principles behind this revolutionary technology.

Mr. Elmer Peramo, a Senior Science Research Specialist at DOST-ASTI, explored the Convergence of AI and Quantum Computing, shedding light on the potential synergies between artificial intelligence and quantum computing in shaping the future of technology.

DOST-ASTI researcher Jul Jon General delved into the Simulation of Quantum Circuits and Its Usability in the NISQ-era, offering valuable insights into the practical applications of quantum computing in the near term.

The lecture series culminated with a presentation by Bernie Buenaobra, Ambassador of One Quantum Philippines, providing a comprehensive overview of the Understanding the Physics of Quantum Computation, leaving participants with a deeper understanding of the underlying principles driving quantum computing.

Throughout the lecture series, participants had the opportunity to actively engage with the speakers through Q&A sessions.

As the Quantum Computing Lecture Series concluded, Dean Lavilles expressed gratitude to the speakers and attendees for their participation and enthusiasm.

Following the lecture series was the Tesseract General Assembly, marking a significant milestone for CCS. Led by the CCS-Executive Council, the guild’s name is derived from the Tesseract—a 4-dimensional cube symbolizing the collaborative essence of the IT industry. Just as a Tesseract unifies all spatial dimensions, this assembly embodies the spirit of unity within the IT community on campus, yet also invites the students to venture into the unexplored realm of higher IT-related technologies. Tesseract promises to be a dynamic platform for collaboration and innovation among the guild members, paving the way for a future driven by technology and creativity.

CCS students, Vince Japeth Loable and Nilmar Pesaras, student leaders of Tesseract, presented the proposed Constitution and By-Laws (CBL), soliciting feedback from attendees and clarifying queries during the Q&A session.

Governor Gerald Avila delivered the closing remarks, expressing optimism for the future of Tesseract and its role in fostering a culture of innovation within CCS. With the groundwork laid, Tesseract is poised to become a driving force for development and advancement within the College as well as becoming the first developer’s organization housed in CCS, ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT.

The Quantum Computing Lecture Series and Tesseract General Assembly represented significant milestones in the journey of CCS, towards embracing innovation and excellence in computer studies. As the college looks towards the future, the possibilities are endless, fueled by the passion and dedication of its students and faculty.
