In light of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT) Research Week Celebration with the theme “Synergizing Innovation and Interdisciplinarity: Pathways to a Sustainable Future,” and upon the recommendation of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise (OVCRE), the College of Health Sciences (CHS), on March 5, 2024, conducted its CHS Research Forum 2024 for its faculty members, researchers and students at the CHS Hall, 4th floor of the Engineering and Technology Complex.
The morning session started with an inspiring message from CHS Dean, Assoc. Prof. Abdullah Junior S. Mangarun, DScN, MAN, RN who welcomed participants. He said that coming together for this special event was to honor the spirit of inquiry and intellectual experiences that defines our academic community, and bearing witness to the first Research Week Celebration of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT was a blessing for everyone, blessings that underscore a shared commitment to advancing knowledge and expanding the horizons of scholarship.
Dr. Mae-Lanie O. Poblete gave the formal introduction of the Rationale and Recognition of Research Achievements for Publications (2023-2024), International Conference Paper Presentations, Winners of Research Competitions, AD Scientific Index 2024, and Completed and Ongoing Researches.
This was then followed by the presentations of completed researches of Dr. Roselyn M. Butalid with her paper “Needs assessment of PWDs in Iligan City: Basis for designing a sustainable community outreach program,” Assoc. Prof. Geraldine S. Ridad and Assoc. Prof. Minnie B. Mamauag’s “Perceived Health Impact of Holcim Resource Development Company (HRDC) to its Highly Impacted Communities (Phase 3) November 2021-April 2022,” and Dr. Neil M. Martin’s presentation of Water Sanitation Project (WASAP) in Barangay Luinab, Iligan City.
The afternoon session saw the Realigning of the CHS research agenda to the Regional, National, and SDG’s research agenda by Dr. Poblete, followed by an Evaluation with Assoc. Prof. Art Brian S. Escabarte giving the closing remarks.
With a good turn-out and the active engagement of CHS faculty and nursing students in all class levels, CHS managed to successfully facilitate its CHS Research Forum 2024 as part of the several activities that provided valuable opportunities during the Research Week event.
March 6-7 Research Week activities also saw the active participation and presence of CHS faculty and students in the FabLab Designing and Prototyping at the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT FABLAB MINDANAO; the Research Proposal Writing for Externally Funded Projects for Faculty at the CED Amphitheater; and at the iDEYA for the Start-up Basics 101 for students on March 4. 2024.
Recognition of achievements in research, Scopus indexed for 2023, Best Paper, Best Presenter, Best Poster in the National or International Conferences were bestowed on researchers during the week’s Closing Program on March 8, 2024.
Dr. Ephrime B. Metillo, Vice-Chancellor, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise (OVCRE) presented the awards, along with Dr. Gaudencio C. Petalcorin, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
The following awardees from CHS were Dr. Roselyn M. Butalid, Dr. Gloria Shiela E. Coyoca, Dr. Minnie B. Mamauag, Dr. Mae-Lanie Ong Poblete, Dr. Neil M. Martin, and Assistant Professors, Johanna Jiel Padogdog-Cortes, Elvie A. Paler, Queenie Jane J. Ramel and Reya T. Seno.
Aside from the awardees, the CHS also received a Certificate of Recognition for its Booth No. 15, garnering 1st Place for the Best College Booth Exhibit which was also given during the Closing Program.
This momentous week-long event which kicked-off on March 4, 2024 with Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan leading the ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening, with the President of the National Research Council of the Philippines, and Vice-Chancellor for Research – UP Manila, Dr. Leslie Michelle M. Dalmacio, as the event’s keynote speaker.
During the Closing Program, Chancellor Ditucalan, in his speech, on celebrating one of the milestones for the event, on faculty publications, recapitulated on ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IITs strategic plans and goals, specifically addressed the students, on their active participation in the various events of the Research Week that in turn demonstrates their active participation in ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IITs goal of becoming a research-intensive university. He hoped that the goal of declaring this Research Week will also help in putting that mindset to the community that ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT is a Research University that possesses amazing research capability.
With a myriad of researches showcasing innovations of diverse perspectives from the various colleges and centers in their respective exhibition stands, and by showing genuine appreciation for Innovation, Research and research collaboration from the different disciplines, and researcher’s achievements, with this year’s theme “Synergizing Innovation and Interdisciplinarity: Pathways to a Sustainable Future,” it truly underscores the University’s vision in embarking on a new path in its continued pursuit towards Influencing the Future.
