A group of senior nursing students from Block AAA of the College of Health Sciences (CHS), Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT), led by CHS Faculty and the group’s Clinical Instructor Assistant Professor Nona Krislin Gonzales Gomez-Jopillo, MAN, RN, took part in a free-on-site medical mission by the City Government of Iligan which extended medical care and addressed immediate health concerns among the residents of Barangay Del Carmen, Iligan City on February 20, 2024.

The half day event “Serbisyong Iliganon Caravan 2024” held at the Barangay Del Carmen gymnasium was organized by LGU Iligan – City Health Office, along with other governmental, non-governmental, non-profit organizations, and healthcare volunteers provided various free-on-site medical services, such as Medical consultation, Circumcision or tuli, STI/HIV counseling and testing, PWD consultation, and Dental consultation and extraction to hundreds of residents of Barangay Del Carmen.

As the group were on their community duty at the Barangay Del Carmen’s Health Station, the invitation to participate in the City’s health caravan provided a place for the CHS senior nursing student group to answer their calling, share their knowledge through health teachings, and apply their skills to those people who needed the most support of essential and vital care.

It also provided a wonderful opportunity to help them familiarize, expand, and hone in the skills they have already learned as well as gaining relevant nursing experience which proves useful and important in their future work as registered nurses.

The success of the Serbisyong Iliganon Caravan 2024 health program, which fosters a sense of community and solidarity to help attain and realize the common goal of contributing to the overall well-being and development of society, can be attributed to the diligence of the medical mission team, healthcare volunteers, and the public-spirited support of the City’s local government officials.
