Overview

Graduate education is vital in providing students with more advanced learning in a specialized field. It aims to produce higher human competencies not only through knowledge acquisition, but also in the development of critical thinking, and the generation of new knowledge and technological innovations. Students educated at the graduate level are crucial to societal development.

Through BOR Resolution No. 374, series of 2017, the Office of the Graduate Studies (OGS) was created as a support system of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (OVCAA) for matters and issues pertaining to graduate (advanced) education.

By virtue of BOR Resolution No. 50, series of 2019, OGS was renamed Office of the Director for Graduate Programs (ODGP). The Office is dedicated to ensuring that all graduate programs’ academic standards and integrity are maintained.

The Office coordinates with colleges to monitor and implement academic policies affecting graduate students and graduate faculty members. It provides support and assistance for the enhancement of existing programs and the development of new relevant programs. Anchored on the ISO 9001:2015 standards, the Office is devoted to establishing quality assurance mechanisms to maintain and promote academic and research excellence in graduate education and acquire national and even international level of recognition and accreditation.

The Office is committed to excellent service in assisting graduate students even before their admission up to the successful completion of their academic and research works. It provides support services to departments offering graduate programs in attracting graduate students and facilitates graduate education-related academic activities that enhance graduate students’ productivity, personal and professional development.

With the University’s efforts in providing quality education to all deserving graduate students, the Office ensures that graduate assistantship and scholarship programs remain an important and viable part of graduate education. Teaching and research assistantships capacitate students in developing professional skills in teaching and research project-related works. Support services and policy recommendations are provided to the administration to scale up financial support sources to graduate students. ODGP, as host-office for CHED scholarship, will endeavor to assure that all graduate programs of the University will have an available scholarship for qualified students.
