Message of the Chancellor - 45th ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT Charter Day, July 2013

Posted on : July 03, 2013

With much pleasure, I am proud to note that the enthusiasm of our constituents has not abated in this year’s 45th Charter Day celebration of another milestone in our Institute’s history.

Over the euphoria of this celebration we must prepare for a new era we are about to enter -- the opening of borders within our ASEAN region. The year 2015 is just around the corner and yet not many people in our country, much less the peoples of Southeast Asia are aware of the new challenges they must face.

Economic integration is one of the most daunting of these challenges and—despite political differences within the ASEAN—we cannot stop the vision of our fathers. We have to be made aware of greater heights to take on in order to keep in step with progress within the region and the rest of the world.

In the Institute today, new buildings are constructed and offices are being renovated. There is an increase of projects for our research and extension programs and, changes are taking place with our academic programs brought on by the government’s implementation of K+12.

All this are more than enough for us to prepare for a better future in a world that has grown smaller each day because of the modern means of communication and transportation systems, advances in electronics and in computer science as well as in medicine, among others. Prepare therefore, for more involvement in international affairs if we do not want to be left behind by our neighbors, and by the rest of the world.

We must believe in what all of us can do for our Institute and for our country. There is no turning back time and, with it, progress. Let us, therefore, be true to our theme, “Greater Heights for Internationalization”. Take action now.

SUKARNO D. TANGGOL, DPA
