It is with much pleasure that, as your new Chancellor, I am able to take part in the various activities and festivities the faculty, staff and students have worked so hard at in making this year’s Charter Day celebration a success.
I believe that any Charter Day celebration is a celebration of the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT’s credibility that must be felt in the region and the rest of the country. Not only is our alumni, I presume, taking care of this; the present constituents of the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT have to do their part as well.
As you join in the fun and games, the forums, exhibits, parades, tabo, night café, and cultural events, the Charter Day celebration would be more meaningful if we also remember the founders of the Institute. It was their vision and mission that have made the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT what it is today: a top academic institution in the country with the scholarly achievements of its faculty and students and the unwavering support of our staff and our alumni.
We all can see that the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT has grown since its founding in 1968, and I am sure that she will become more vibrant as she continues to achieve more in order for her to take a firm place as one of the best higher institutions of learning in the world.
Such could be achieved when all ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT constituents will work hand in hand to leave a legacy to the future generations whose aim is, I believe, to be given a chance to study in an accessible, higher institution of learning like the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT.
This year’s theme, “ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT: going beyond borders,” on the other hand, suggests an aspiration to connect, or reconnect with all peoples in the world – a world that has become smaller with the dynamism and fast growth of science and technology. Yet, when we speak of science and technology, we need to understand our own selves, our purposes and needs in life.
As the Chancellor of this Institute, join me as I navigate with a humanist context to steer the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT in the spirit in which it was envisioned by its founders 43 years ago.
Happy Charter Day everyone!
Dr. SUKARNO D. TANGGOL
