The week-long celebration of a university-wide research and innovation discourse culminated in an awarding and recognition of researchers who showcased exemplary overall performance and quality output during the Closing Program on April 25, 2025.
Held at the University Gymnasium, the recognition of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT researchers' hard work strengthens the University's research ecosystem, with 211 awardees contributing 505 Scopus-indexed papers, three (3) books and book chapters, 31 internally-funded projects, and 25 externally-funded projects.
The booth exhibits at the gymnasium also received awards, which included the Best Research Center Booth Exhibits: 1st place to Sustainable Resource Engineering Research, 2nd place to the Center for Integrated Circuits Design, and 3rd place to the Center for Bamboo Research and Technology.
In addition, the Best College Booth Exhibit category had the following podium places: 1st place to the College of Health Sciences (CHS), 2nd place to the College of Engineering (COE), and 3rd place to the College of Computer Studies (CCS).
In the People’s Choice Award, booth exhibits of the Research Center for Advanced Ceramics (RCAC) and the Resource Processing and Technology Center (RPTC) shared 1st place, followed by Sustainable Resource Engineering Research in 2nd place, and the Center for Integrated Circuits Design (CICD) in 3rd place. For the College booth exhibits, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) won 1st place, the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) won 2nd, and the College of Economics, Business, and Accountancy (CEBA), 3rd place.
Meanwhile, in the special awards for research excellence, the 2024 Highly Collaborative Research Center Award was given to the Center for Sustainable Polymers (CSP), which secured 1st place, followed by the Center for Biodiversity Studies and Conservation (CBSC) in 2nd place, and the CICD in 3rd place.
In terms of research productivity, the 2024 Most Productive Research Center Award was given to the CSP, 1st place, the CICD, 2nd place, and the CBSC, 3rd place.
The Top 3 most published faculty researchers were also recognized– Dr. Arnold Alguno, Dr. Hernando Bacosa, and Dr. Arnold Lubguban, who had the highest numbers of Scopus-indexed papers.
The recent inclusion of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT among the top universities in Asia by the Times Higher Education, placing second among Philippine universities, forges the path of becoming a well-established research-intensive university on a global scale. Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan, in his speech during the Closing Program, proudly shared this milestone and reiterated that the celebration and conclusion of Research Week is a reminder of the goal of making ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT the “MIT in the Philippines,” highlighting the excellence that is not simply emulated but innovated.
Already in its second year, the annual Research Week, organized by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise (OVCRE) under the leadership of Dr. Ephrime Metillo, and the Office of Research Management, headed by Dr. Arnold Alguno, promises to continue the culture built and create more inventive ways to make research and innovation engaging and accessible.
