Leadership and Management Capability Building Seminar for Older Adults Held

A capability building seminar for officers of a senior citizens organization was held at the College of Education (CED) Amphitheater last October 7, 2024 to empower older adults and help them build confidence in their abilities to lead and manage effectively across various sectors.

The seminar was conducted by the Research Center for Healthy Aging (RCHA), College of Health Sciences (CHS), and Gender and Development Center (GADC) for the officers of the Iligan Chapter of the Federation of Senior Citizen Associations of the Philippines, Inc. (FSCAP).

The seminar entitled, “Older Adult Capability Building Seminar for leadership and Management” had four interactive workshops that included lectures on leadership and management, gender inclusive communication processes in an organization, and conflict management systems.

The capability building seminar that was attended by around 100 older adult leaders aimed to enhance leadership skills; update management knowledge; and introduce modern management practices and tools. It also touched on aspects of digital literacy; promoted lifelong learning; and fostered networking and collaboration.

The program also ran a needs assessment survey for the FSCAP leaders concerning their leadership capability, values, and competencies with the active help and assistance from the CHS Faculty members and junior nursing students.

CHS faculty member and RCHA Head Prof. Minnie B. Mamauag delivered a talk on “Effective Communication, Gender Dynamics and the Leadership and Management Processes”

Another CHS faculty member, Assoc. Prof. Mae-Lanie O. Poblete, talked on the “Basic Concept of Gender Equality and Digital Management”. 

The University’s GAD Focal Person, Asst. Prof. Yasmira Moner, talked about “Leadership and Gender Inclusivity.”
