College of Science and Mathematics-Biological Sciences Professor, Dr. Hernando P. Bacosa, has been granted a prestigious fellowship by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) under the JSPS BRIDGE Fellowship Program for FY 2024.

The JSPS BRIDGE Fellowship Program for FY 2024 aims to strengthen the network between researchers from different countries and Japan for a duration of 30 consecutive days, working alongside a Japanese host researcher.

Dr. Bacosa will be partnering with Professor INOUE Chihiro from Tohoku University and will commence his fellowship in Japan from July 1, 2024, through March 31, 2025.

It is worth noting that only two fellows from the Philippines are chosen each year for this prestigious program, and Dr. Bacosa is one of the fortunate recipients.

On April 5, 2024, Dr. Bacosa received the award letter and a certificate of financial support from Mr. SUGINO Tsuyoshi, President of JSPS.

The JSPS is an esteemed independent administrative institution established to support the advancement of science in various fields, encompassing natural and social sciences, as well as the humanities.

This is not the first time Dr. Bacosa has been recognized for his outstanding work. Last year, he received the 2023 Outstanding Filipino JSPS Award in Environmental Science, presented to him by DOST Secretary Renato Solidum and Dr. Yoshio Otani from the JSPS Bangkok Office. The award ceremony took place on November 23, 2023, during the celebration of The National Science and Technology Week, held at the Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City.
