The Alumni and Endowment Fund Center organized a turnover ceremony on September 15 to formalize the endowment fund donation made by Mr. JR Lopez Gonzales, an alumnus from the Political Science class of 2009 and a former faculty member of the same department. This marks the University’s fifth endowment fund donation, coming just months after receiving its fourth donation in May of this year.
Present during the ceremony were Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development, Dr. Pamela F. Resurreccion, who represented Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan, and the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, Atty. Yaslani B. Bantuas. Asst. Prof. Phyllis Marie S. Teanco, the Director of the Office of Student Development Services, represented the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs in personally receiving the donation.
“We are happy that alumni like JR looked back to the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT community,” said Asst. Prof. Teanco who also shared her message during the event. She was the previous coach of the ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT Debate Varsity (MIDV) and Mr. Gonzales was among the pioneering batch of the university’s debate team back in 2007-2008. The event was also graced by members of MIDV who also gave their token of appreciation to Mr. Gonzales.
In his message, Mr. Gonzales laid emphasis on the importance of giving back and being kind to others. He takes honor in growing up in a family that practices the spirit of generosity to impart to the community. In his speech, he recounted that he was inspired by Dr. Resurreccion’s kindness when he was among the victims of Typhoon Sendong back in 2012.
The message was followed by the signing of the Deed of Donation and Certificate of Acceptance. On behalf of Chancellor Ditucalan, Dr. Resurreccion expressed her utmost gratitude to Mr. Gonzales who came back to ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT to support the increasing programs of the university for students, staff, and faculty members.
Indeed, Mr. Gonzales is a living example of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT’s alumni who are more than eager to look back and pay it forward. It is worth noting that Mr. Gonzales' family are true-blue IITians. His parents are products of ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳-IIT's Civil Engineering Technology program in teh early eighties, and all of his siblings are also graduates of the PolSci Department.
