Objectives
- Provide a forum for a wider dissemination of MA/MS theses and special projects;
- Develop the presentation skills of MA/MS students by exposing them to an academic conference atmosphere;
- Improve the research quality of theses and special projects before they are finally defended for degree/certificate; and
- Enhance and update the current research practices in the SGS.
Rules
- Participants
- All MA/MS students who are enrolled in all graduate programs of the Institute shall present a substantial portion of their theses and special projects in the colloquium (refer to S.O. No. 01061 Series of 2012). Ph.D. students are now required to present a substantial portion of their dissertation in national or international conferences.
(Note: “Substantial portion” means all the portions that are specified and required in the summary of the paper. Refer to Summary of the Paper Specifications)
- Students whose theses and special projects are scheduled for official final defense in March 2015, as confirmed by their advisers, are qualified for presentation. Furthermore, they have to be recommended by their advisers before they can present in the colloquium. (Please see Form 3).
- Schedule of submissions(soft and hard copies) and file names
- Deadline of submission of list of titles of theses and special projects from the respective program coordinators: January 9, 2015
- Deadline of submission of recommendation form and personal information: January 14, 2015
- Deadline of submission of summary of the paper( 4 hard copies): January 23, 2015
- Deadline of submission of summary of the paper (online submission): January 24, 2015
- Deadline of submission of Powerpoint January 26, 2015 before 12nn (the student shall also bring with him/her a back-up copy of the presentation stored in a mobile disk and submit these 15 minutes before the start of the presentation session.
- For this semester’s colloquium, submission of abstracts, summary of the paper and powerpoint will be done through the open conference system, a free Web publishing tool that creates a complete Web presence for scholarly conferences. Students can upload their abstracts and powerpoint through this link: . Abstract Specifications
- The abstract should not be more than 400 words and must include four (4) key terms, the research problem, methods, initial results and recommendations.
- The abstract must be in MS Word format, using Times New Roman font, size 12 (see Form 1) and encoded in A4 bond paper with 1” top, left and right margins
- The abstract must be accompanied by a short professional information of the student (see Form 2)
Summary of the Paper Specifications
- A 15-page summary of the thesis/special project will be required from each presenter. This is to allow the panellists/reviewers to have a good and more detailed picture of the study.
- The summary shall be encoded in A4 bond paper, in Times New Roman font, size 12, in 1.5 spacing.
- The summary shall include the following: Introduction, statement of the problem, specific objectives, conceptual and/or theoretical framework, methodology, initial results and recommendations.
