BS Civil Engineering Program Educational Objectives

Within three to five years after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, a graduate is expected to establish the following:

  1. Established themselves in the field of construction engineering and management, geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering, water resources engineering, structural engineering and transportation engineering and allied field as engineers, academicians, technopreneurs, innovators and/or researchers.
  2. Sustained career development through graduate studies and/or professional training.
  3. A sense of social responsibility, good ethical behavior, and professional commitment through involvement in community engagement activities and active membership in professional organizations in the field of Civil Engineering which promote social awareness and equity.

BS Civil Engineering Program Outcomes

Graduates of our baccalaureate program in Civil Engineering should be able to have:

  1. Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering sciences to the practice of civil engineering.
  2. Ability to design and conduct experiment as well as analyze and interpret data.
  3. Ability to design a system, component or process to meet the design requirement.
  4. Understanding principles of sustainable design and development.
  5. Ability to function effectively as an individual and in a group with the capacity to be a leader or manager as well as an effective team member on multi-disciplinary teams.
  6. Ability to identify, formulate and provide creative, innovative, and/or effective solution to the civil engineering problem.
  7. Understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, other professionals and community at large using the English language.
  9. Broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in societal, cultural, global and environmental context.
  10. Recognition of the need for and ability to engage in lifelong learning.
  11. Knowledge of contemporary issues (related to engineering that no other educational experience could provide).
  12. Ability to use necessary skills, techniques and modern engineering tools for civil engineering practice.
  13. Knowledge of professional practice issues, such as procurement of work, bidding versus quality-based selection processes, and the interactions of design and construction professionals in executing a project.
