Day by day, we make vital decisions from among various alternatives. The study of economics provides a deeper understanding of why decisions are made as such and a clear analysis of the occurrence and impact of economic phenomena.
Economics is the study of how individuals, households, societies, businesses, and governments allocate limited resources to satisfy human needs. It covers a wide range of areas such as the economics of money and banking, managerial economics, environmental and resource economics, health economics, urban economics, agricultural economics, labor economics, institutional economics, and international business and trade. The economics discipline is characterized by two vital features. Firstly, it deals with the development and understanding of conceptual models of human behavior to predict responses to changes in policies and market conditions. Secondly, it utilizes mathematical and statistical analysis to investigate economic phenomena.
These include proficiency in mathematical and statistical techniques in analyzing and solving economic problems. Taking economics as a major course is in fact a good preparation for a variety of careers. The economics program prepares students for careers in banking, insurance, service and manufacturing firms, real estate, consulting, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
